Plantation feels expansive from the first tee, but the width is deceptive because slopes, exposure and bunker placement continually alter the preferred line. The round moves between ridgelines, downhill tee shots, uphill approaches and large contoured greens. Each nine has its own rhythm, while the rotating 18-hole combination means the finish can change. The constant physical theme is elevation: it affects stance, carry, club selection and how firmly approaches release.
Plantation occupies rolling ground that previously formed part of a pineapple plantation. Schmidt-Curley used the existing hills and ridgelines to create elevated tees, broad landing areas and long views towards Pattaya and the Gulf of Thailand. The agricultural theme continues in the names of the three nines: Sugar Cane, Tapioca and Pineapple. Rather than a flat resort layout, the course is defined by open exposure, substantial changes in level and a landscape that gives each shot a clear sense of scale.
Plantation’s strategy begins with choosing the correct side of its broad fairways. Deep bunkers and side slopes make some generous-looking landing areas functionally narrow, while elevated greens reward approaches played from the better angle. The three nines vary in sequence, but all ask golfers to balance carry distance against control. Aggressive lines can shorten long holes or improve the approach, yet misses often leave awkward lies, bunker recoveries or shots to raised targets. Fast, undulating putting surfaces then place a premium on distance control rather than simply reaching the green.
Use the official yardages honestly; the elevation and exposed carries make Plantation play longer than its numbers suggest.
Use the fairway width to create a controlled approach rather than automatically aiming at the centre.
Adjust uphill and downhill yardages carefully before committing to shots across the rolling ridgelines.
Trust your caddie on the large, fast greens, especially where broad slopes disguise the true break.
Sugar Cane 6 – Par 3: The sixth plays steeply downhill into a natural amphitheatre. The visual drop changes the effective yardage, while the exposed tee can make club selection uncertain. It matters because it compresses Plantation’s scale into one committed iron shot: control the flight and distance, or face a difficult recovery.
Sugar Cane 9 – Par 4: The ninth closes the loop with water framing the hole and a raised green complex controlling the approach. The drive must establish a reliable angle rather than chase maximum distance. As the final hole of the Sugar Cane nine, it turns Plantation’s recurring themes—elevation, exposure and demanding green sites—into a decisive finish.
The Plantation clubhouse provides lockers, showers and drying facilities, while the restaurant overlooks the triple-green complex. Golfers can use a natural-grass driving range, putting green and chipping area; the pro shop also offers club hire. One caddie and one individual golf cart are compulsory for every golfer, and Siam Country Club caddies drive the carts. Cart access may be restricted after rainfall, and players must keep pace with the group ahead.
The current starting rate is displayed dynamically in the booking card above. It covers the inclusions identified alongside the rate, while the available 18-hole combination, playing time and final confirmation remain subject to Siam Country Club’s schedule.
Plantation is demanding because of its length, elevation changes, deep bunkering and large contoured greens. The five tee sets reduce the yardage substantially, but golfers still need reliable contact, distance control and disciplined positioning to avoid turning broad fairways into difficult approaches.
Complete beginners may find Plantation severe, particularly when carries, raised targets and fast greens combine. Newer golfers can still play by choosing the forward tees, following their caddie’s advice and treating the round as an experience rather than expecting an easy scoring course.
Yes. Siam Country Club requires one caddie and one individual golf cart for every golfer, and the course’s caddies drive the carts. Cart access can change with course conditions, so golfers should follow the instructions given on the day.
