Amata Spring combines substantial championship length with a position-led design that continually rewards the correct driving angle. Broad landing areas can appear inviting, but high-flashed bunkers, creeks, lakes and sharp run-off zones determine which section of fairway provides the strongest approach. The large greens contain significant tiers and movement, making distance control and putting position just as important as finding the surface. From the black tees the course is a severe tournament test, while the shorter tees make the strategic design more accessible without removing its principal hazards.
The original property was comparatively flat and centred on a large lake. During construction, material from the lakebed was repurposed to create the sweeping elevation changes that now shape the course. Mature trees and vegetation have since developed around the routing, giving the layout a far more established landscape than its industrial-estate location might suggest. The lake remains the visual centre of the property and directly influences seven holes, including the famous seventeenth and the closing hole beside the clubhouse.
Lee Schmidt designed Amata Spring to test both execution and decision-making rather than relying only on extreme length. Bunkers frequently define the preferred side of a landing area, while raised greens and closely mown run-offs make an inaccurate approach difficult even when it avoids water. Several holes offer a more aggressive route that opens the green, but missing that line can leave a blocked angle, deep bunker or direct penalty. The most reliable strategy is to choose tees carefully, favour the side that improves the next shot and leave the ball on the correct green tier whenever possible.

Identify which side of each fairway opens the green and use position rather than simply aiming for the widest visible landing area.
Use your caddie’s advice on approach distance because finishing on the wrong level can leave a severe first putt.
Commit fully on holes 16 to 18, where firm greens, lake carries and changing wind place additional pressure on club selection.
Hole 16: The 478-yard par four from the black tees requires a controlled drive followed by a demanding approach to a narrow green. Bunkers guard the right side, run-off areas collect shots left and the lake waits beyond the putting surface.
Hole 17: The 145-yard par three from black is Amata Spring’s defining hole. The green floats within the main lake and is reached by boat after the tee shot, while changing wind makes the compact target more difficult than the scorecard distance suggests.
Hole 18: The 477-yard finishing par four threads between two lakes toward the Mediterranean-style clubhouse. The approach must account for water, a cascading waterfall, a greenside bunker and a putting surface that slopes from back to front.
Amata Spring provides a 340-yard grass driving range with 36 floodlit practice bays and more than 12 target greens. The wider practice complex includes wedge targets from 30 to 120 yards, a chipping green, bunker complex and expansive putting green. The clubhouse contains a pro shop, international and Italian restaurants, private dining and meeting spaces, while the wellness centre provides massage treatments, a swimming pool and relaxation area. Amata Spring operates as a private members’ club, and visitor access is restricted.
Amata Spring is a private members’ club and is normally reserved for members and their invited guests. Visitor access is restricted and should not be treated as a regularly available public tee time.
The signature seventeenth is a par three played to a floating green positioned in the main lake. Golfers who play the course reach the putting surface by a short boat journey after the tee shot.
Amata Spring is extremely demanding from the 7,453-yard black tees. Its bunkering, water hazards, raised targets, run-off areas and strongly contoured greens also require accurate positioning from the shorter tees.
The course is not an ideal first-round venue for complete beginners. Its private access conditions, championship length, water hazards and difficult green complexes make it better suited to more experienced golfers.
Amata Spring has hosted major events including the Honda LPGA Thailand, the Royal Trophy, the Thailand Golf Championship, the Amata Friendship Cup and the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship.
The course is physically located in Nong Mai Daeng, Chonburi. It is included in the wider Bangkok golf market because it is accessible from Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi Airport and the eastern metropolitan corridor.
The property has private three-bedroom golf villas available under qualifying arrangements. Villa access and accommodation availability are separate from public hotel or golf-course bookings.
