Springfield Royal changes character as the round moves between its three nines. Some holes appear broad from the tee but narrow strategically around bunkers and water, while gentle elevation alters sightlines and club selection elsewhere. The rhythm shifts between exposed landing areas, tree-framed approaches, water-led carries and greens that reward a controlled angle of entry rather than one repeated style of play.
Water gives Springfield Royal much of its identity. The club’s course guide records twelve lakes across the property, with established vegetation and habitat supporting more than 100 native bird species. The same guide says course water is recaptured and returned to the lakes. On the course, those water bodies separate corridors, shape sightlines and influence the safer line from tee to green rather than serving as background decoration alone.
Springfield Royal’s design rewards the correct side of the fairway more than simple distance. Diagonal bunkers, offset water and angled green entrances can turn a safe-looking central drive into a partially blocked approach. Five tee sets alter both length and hazard relevance, while the three possible 18-hole combinations prevent one fixed routing from defining the course. The strategic question is usually where to place the next shot, not merely how far to hit it.
Select a tee that removes repeated forced carries; the back tees add substantial length and stronger strategic demands.
Use the side of the fairway that opens the green, even when the centre appears safer from the tee.
Treat water as an angle-setting feature, not only a penalty, and avoid attacking across its widest line.
Confirm carries and green contours with the caddie when elevation or concealed landing areas distort visual judgement.
Springfield Royal’s 27-hole format is its clearest structural distinction. Course A, Course B and Course C can form three par-72 combinations. From the gold tees, A–B measures 7,043 yards, B–C 7,203 yards and C–A 7,186 yards. Because the selected pairing changes the sequence and total test, golfers should treat the confirmed combination as part of the tee-time details rather than assume one permanent 18-hole routing.
Springfield Royal has a pro shop, restaurant, locker rooms, a natural-grass driving range, two putting greens and two chipping and pitching greens. The official practice facilities are available to daily green-fee guests, members and resort guests. Springfield Royal can be played from the forward tees, but it is not the easiest first course for a complete beginner. Water, bunkering and angled approaches create repeated decisions. Newer golfers should choose an appropriate tee and use their caddie’s guidance rather than judge the round only by score.
