Eastern Star Country Club provides more room from the tee than many championship courses around Pattaya, but the visible width can disguise the importance of choosing the correct side of the fairway. Lakes commonly run beside the intended route, while mature coconut and mango trees can block the approach after an inaccurate drive. Numerous doglegs reward golfers who plan the next shot rather than simply aiming at the centre of the landing area. From the blue tees the course has substantial length, but its four published tee sets allow golfers to choose a more suitable balance of distance and strategic difficulty.
Eastern Star was created across a former coconut plantation in Ban Chang, approximately two kilometres from the coast. More than 2,200 coconut palms remain part of the course identity, supplemented by mango trees, flowering areas and lakes distributed throughout the property. The terrain is gently undulating rather than mountainous, producing open sightlines and subtle changes in stance and effective yardage. Its proximity to the Gulf of Thailand can also bring a cooling coastal breeze, adding another variable to exposed tee shots and approaches.
Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Eastern Star around placement, angles and controlled risk rather than narrow fairways alone. Water often protects one side of the driving area, while fairway bunkers and doglegs determine whether the next shot has a clear view of the green. Several raised putting surfaces are guarded by front bunkers, increasing the cost of leaving an approach short or playing from the wrong side. The most reliable strategy is to favour the side that opens the target, avoid being blocked by trees and accept a longer approach when the aggressive line brings water or out-of-bounds into play.
Choose a tee based on reliable carry distance; the 7,134-yard blue-tee layout includes several long par fours and demanding par threes.
Position the drive on the side that opens the next shot rather than allowing palms, mango trees or bunkers to block the direct approach.
Identify the safe side before every full shot because lakes frequently run beside the fairway or continue toward the green.
Add enough club when the putting surface is elevated and use your caddie’s advice to avoid front bunkers and steep surrounding slopes.
Hole 11: The 596-yard par five is the longest hole on the course. Water and out-of-bounds run along the left, while a bunker guards the right side of the green, making the second-shot position more important than simply advancing the ball as far as possible.
Hole 12: This 327-yard par four is considerably shorter but introduces a different decision. The raised green may tempt longer hitters to attack directly, although out-of-bounds continues along the left and an inaccurate aggressive shot can remove the advantage of the shorter distance.
Hole 13: Eastern Star identifies the 167-yard par three as its signature hole. Bunkering surrounds the target, including a pot bunker in front, so the safer strategy is to choose enough club for the centre of the green rather than attacking a tightly protected flag.
