The Old Course begins with a measured parkland rhythm, then steadily increases the demand on position and approach control. Gently rolling fairways create changing stances without severe elevation, while mature trees frame sightlines and punish careless angles. The greens add much of the difficulty through pace and contour. The closing holes raise the scoring pressure before the par-five eighteenth returns the round to the clubhouse terrace.
Opened in 1971, the Old Course has had decades to develop the mature parkland character that now defines it. Tamarind and acacia trees form established corridors across gently rolling hills outside Pattaya, giving the routing a settled, traditional identity. The 2007 Schmidt-Curley renovation modernised the playing challenge while retaining the site’s established character. The course is therefore shaped as much by mature vegetation and ground movement as by constructed hazards.
The Old Course creates strategic depth through position rather than spectacle. Mature trees narrow useful angles, bunkers protect preferred landing areas and fast, contoured greens make the quality of the approach more important than raw distance. A safe tee shot can still leave an awkward route when it finishes on the wrong side of the fairway. The layout rewards golfers who plan backwards from the green, control trajectory from rolling lies and accept conservative targets when the direct line offers little margin.
Select a tee that keeps the longer par fours reachable and the tree-lined approaches realistically manageable.
Favour a clear approach angle over extra distance when mature trees narrow the useful side of the fairway.
Allow for changing stance and ball flight as the gently rolling fairways move the ball above or below your feet.
Use your caddie’s knowledge for landing lines, approach targets and the pace of the fast greens.
The club identifies the par-five eighteenth as the signature hole of Siam Country Club Old Course. A sweeping dogleg carries the round back towards a green positioned in front of the clubhouse terrace, creating a natural viewing area during tournament play. The hole provides a fitting final decision because golfers must judge how aggressively to advance through the dogleg while preserving a manageable angle for the final approach. Its position, shape and clubhouse setting make it the clearest defining hole without relying on unsupported descriptions of the rest of the routing.
Practice facilities include a natural-grass driving range, putting green and chipping area. The clubhouse provides a pro shop with club hire, lockers, showers, drying facilities and an upstairs restaurant overlooking the eighteenth. A caddie and separate cart are compulsory for every golfer, and the caddie must drive. The published scorecard sets a target pace of two hours and fifteen minutes per nine holes. Proper golf attire is required.
The current starting rate is displayed dynamically in the Green Fees & Booking card above. It applies per golfer and covers the inclusions identified beside the rate. Your requested playing time and final availability remain subject to confirmation by Siam Country Club.
The Old Course is strategically demanding rather than extreme in elevation. From the black tees, the official course rating is 74.1 with a slope rating of 137. Forward tees reduce the overall length, but positional driving, approach control and fast-green management remain important.
Complete beginners may find the Old Course demanding because mature trees, strategic bunkering and fast greens punish repeated mistakes. Newer golfers can still play by selecting a forward tee, following their caddie’s guidance and treating the round as an experience rather than a scoring test.
