Rolling Hills begins with a spacious, exposed feel, where generous fairways encourage confident swings but centreline hazards keep the preferred side of each hole important. The back nine changes the rhythm as the ground rises and falls around lakes, marshland and deeper bunker complexes. Lies become less predictable, sightlines tighten and the final climb places greater pressure on distance control and decision-making.
Rolling Hills was built as a core golf layout without housing or resort development inside the routing. Its identity comes from broad open ground, young casuarina plantings, pine-straw waste areas, marshland, lotus pools and two large lakes. The front nine uses flatter, more exposed land, while the back nine moves through the site’s natural undulations. That change in landform gives the round its name and separates the two halves.
Schmidt-Curley uses width to create choices rather than simple forgiveness. Centreline bunkers and waste areas divide landing zones, so the safest drive does not always leave the clearest approach. Angles matter more as the round reaches the hillier back nine, where water, raised ground and deeper sand make recovery more demanding. The par-5 15th is the clearest risk-reward example: challenging the left side can shorten the route, but the steep Wall of Death bunker complex heavily punishes an unsuccessful line.
Choose a tee that keeps the longer par fours and par fives within comfortable reach.
Wide fairways are divided by centreline hazards, so favour the side that opens the next shot rather than the widest space.
Expect flatter, exposed holes early and more uneven lies, water decisions and elevation changes across the back nine.
Let the caddie confirm landing lines, carry distances and green breaks, especially through the Wall of Death and closing sequence.
Hole 15 – Wall of Death (Par 5): This uphill, double-zig-zag par five asks whether to challenge the left side for a shorter route. The aggressive line brings the steep-faced bunker complex into play, while the safer route avoids the deepest sand but leaves a longer approach.
Holes 16–18 – Dream Sequence: The official closing run comprises Postage Stamp, a par three; Trident, a par four; and Home, a par four. It follows immediately after the course’s most recognisable risk-reward hole, changing the shot requirement three times before the final hole wraps around the lake towards the clubhouse.

Rolling Hills is moderately demanding rather than relentlessly narrow. Wide landing areas help from the tee, but centreline hazards, deep bunkering, changing elevation and a strategically stronger back nine punish careless positioning. The correct tee choice makes a substantial difference to the experience.
Complete beginners may find the long layout, deep bunkers and demanding closing holes difficult. Newer golfers can still play by choosing forward tees, following their caddie’s advice and treating the round as an experience rather than a scoring test.
Yes. Siam Country Club requires one caddie and one golf cart for each golfer, and only the caddie may drive. The booking card identifies the included services. After heavy rain, carts may be restricted to designated paths.
