The Old Course changes character throughout the round rather than repeating one visual pattern. Golfers move between undulating ground, lower-lying holes and landscaped woodland, with mature trees narrowing some sightlines and lakes opening others. Doglegs and changing lies keep approach angles varied. The closing holes restore direct water pressure, including the short island-green 17th, so concentration remains important late in the round.
Phuket Country Club was established in 1989 on reclaimed tin-mine land in the Kathu valley. The course now passes through three distinct environments: rolling hills, lower-lying ground and landscaped woodland. Mature tropical planting separates many holes, while lakes and limestone-backed hills remain important parts of the setting. This combination gives the Old Course an identity rooted in Phuket’s inland landscape rather than a manufactured coastal-resort environment.
The Old Course creates strategic interest through position rather than extreme length. Doglegs, mature trees and changing terrain reward controlled placement, while water alters the acceptable line on several holes. The par-five 10th presents the clearest risk-and-reward decision, with a direct carry across the lake or a more conservative route around the dogleg. Pot bunkers protect selected greens, and the movement between rolling, low-lying and wooded sections prevents golfers from relying on one repeated shot pattern.
Select tees that keep the longer par fours and back-nine water carries within your dependable playing distance.
Use controlled tee shots to avoid blocked approaches where doglegs and mature trees restrict the direct line.
Take the direct route on the 10th only when the required water carry sits comfortably inside your reliable range.
Ask your caddie about landing areas, changing lies and green contours before committing to the more aggressive option.
Hole 10 – Par 5 The 557-yard 10th turns right around a large lake. The aggressive route requires a substantial carry over water, while the safer line follows the dogleg and leaves a longer sequence of shots. Its position immediately after the turn makes it the Old Course’s clearest risk-and-reward decision.
Hole 17 – Par 3 The short 17th plays to an island green, shifting the challenge from distance to precise club selection and committed contact. The water-defined target arrives late in the round, when a cautious or poorly committed swing can be as costly as an overly aggressive one.
The Old Course clubhouse provides a restaurant and pro shop, while the wider Phuket Country Club complex includes a driving range, putting and chipping greens, and club rental. Caddies are compulsory. The club lists golf carts separately rather than stating that they are compulsory; Fairways of Eden’s booking arrangement includes a cart. Rental clubs and private transfers should be requested in advance. Confirm any uncertain clothing or footwear requirements before arrival.
The current starting rate is displayed dynamically in the booking card above. The accompanying booking details identify what is included, while the requested date, availability and final playing time remain subject to confirmation by Phuket Country Club.
This page covers the 18-hole, par-72 Old Course. Phuket Country Club also operates a separate nine-hole Country Club Course with a different entrance and layout. The two courses should not be treated as one 27-hole playing course.
The Old Course presents a moderate overall challenge and can suit newer or higher-handicap golfers using appropriate tees. Doglegs, changing terrain, mature trees and several water decisions still punish poor positioning, so the course should not be described as completely flat or effortless.
A caddie is compulsory. The club’s published information lists golf carts separately and does not state that they are compulsory. Fairways of Eden’s booking setup includes a golf cart, so the cart arrangement is handled together with the tee-time request.
The Old Course is at 80/1 Vichitsongkram Road, Moo 7, Kathu, Phuket 83120. It lies between Phuket Town and Patong. Actual transfer time depends on the pickup point, traffic and requested tee time.
Request your preferred playing date, tee-time window and golfer details for the 18-hole Old Course.
