A round at Red Mountain changes character constantly, moving between exposed red-earth terrain, jungle-lined corridors and elevated holes. Sloping fairways create uneven lies, while uphill and downhill shots alter effective playing distances.
Sightlines also vary: some holes are open from tee to green, while others reveal their hazards and targets gradually. The result is a varied, mentally demanding round that rewards concentration and accurate distance control.
Red Mountain was built across former tin-mining land in Kathu. Exposed red earth, rocky slopes, old mining scars and abrupt elevation changes were retained as part of the routing, while former mining pits became water hazards.
Tropical vegetation has regenerated around these landforms, creating a strong contrast between maintained playing areas and the rugged terrain around them. The landscape is not decoration; it is the physical foundation of the course.
Red Mountain is built around positional choices rather than distance alone. Many holes offer a safer landing area and a more aggressive line that improves the next shot but brings bunkers, water, rough or steep slopes into play.
Fairways often sit diagonally to the tee or change level across the landing area, so the correct side can matter as much as simply finding the short grass. False fronts, narrow entrances and divided putting surfaces continue the same principle around the greens.
Elevation, carries and approach angles make Red Mountain play harder than its total yardage suggests.
A controlled tee shot with a clear view and stable lie is often more valuable than maximum distance.
Uphill and downhill shots can play differently from the listed yardage, particularly when wind affects the ball in flight.
Local guidance helps with concealed landing areas, effective distances and difficult green contours.
Hole 16, Par 4: The tee sits at the highest point of the round, with a landing area angled across the player’s line. Accurate alignment is essential, while the narrow green and deep front bunker favour a controlled approach.
Hole 17, Par 3: The green sits around 40 yards below the back tee in a steep-sided forest valley. The drop, extended flight time and swirling wind make club selection the defining challenge.
Hole 18, Par 5: A narrow drive leads to a fairway that falls steeply beyond the landing area. A brook divides the driving and approach sections, with water on the right and exposed red cliffs framing the left.
Red Mountain has a 25-bay grass driving range, pro shop with rental clubs, restaurant and outdoor terrace, modern locker rooms and four on-course refreshment kiosks.
Caddies and golf carts are mandatory, and groups are limited to four golfers. The expected pace for 18 holes is approximately four hours and fifteen minutes. Collared shirts and appropriate golf footwear are required, and golfers should arrive early enough to check in and warm up before their tee time.
Red Mountain currently starts from 4,800 THB per golfer through Fairways of Eden. The starting price includes the green fee, mandatory caddie and golf cart. Optional private transfers can be added separately. Final pricing and availability depend on the requested playing date.
Red Mountain is demanding because of its elevation changes, sloping lies, changing sightlines and protected greens. Accuracy, positioning and distance control are generally more important than power. Higher-handicap golfers should select suitable tees.
Red Mountain is not the easiest course for complete beginners. Its uneven terrain and demanding approaches leave limited room for inconsistent shots. Beginners can still play with caddie support and suitable tees, but previous experience of full rounds is recommended.
Yes. Every golfer must use a caddie and golf cart, and both are included in the Fairways of Eden starting price. The cart is particularly important because of the elevation changes and distances between some holes.
