Golf in Thailand During High Season: What to Expect

What is golf in Thailand like during high season? Thailand’s broader golf high season generally runs from November to March, with December, January and February forming the core peak period. Golfers benefit from more comfortable weather and generally strong playing conditions, but should also expect higher demand, less flexibility and stronger prices at popular courses and hotels.

High season is the safest choice for golfers who prioritize weather and course choice, especially on a first trip. It is not automatically the best-value period, and the most desirable morning tee times can require considerably more advance planning than during quieter months.

Scope: This guide covers the practical consequences of playing during Thailand’s peak golf season: weather, course demand, prices, availability and booking pressure. For all twelve months and regional weather patterns, use our Thailand golf weather-by-month guide.

Thailand golf high season at a glance

  • Broader high season: November to March
  • Core peak period: December to February
  • Main advantage: More comfortable weather across most major golf destinations
  • Main disadvantage: Higher demand, stronger prices and less tee-time flexibility
  • Busiest periods: Christmas, New Year and other major holiday weeks
  • Best suited to: First trips, groups, serious golf weeks and travelers prioritizing weather

When Is Golf High Season in Thailand?

Thailand’s broader golf high season normally begins during November and continues through March. December, January and February form the most reliable national peak because many major destinations are experiencing their most comfortable weather while international demand is at its strongest.

The exact start and end vary by destination. Phuket may still be moving out of its wetter period during early November, while Pattaya and Hua Hin can remain attractive into March or April. Chiang Mai’s most distinctive cooler-weather window is normally concentrated from December to February.

High season is partly a weather definition and partly a demand definition. A month can have good golf conditions without creating the same pressure on tee sheets, hotels and transfers as Christmas, New Year or another major travel period.

What Are Golf Conditions Like During Thailand’s High Season?

High season generally brings cooler mornings, lower overall rain risk and more comfortable rounds than the hottest or wettest parts of the year. Conditions still vary by destination and time of day, but golfers usually face fewer weather-related planning problems.

Fairways are often firmer after the main rainy period has ended, providing more rollout than during wet months. Greens may also play faster when surfaces are drier, although maintenance schedules and individual course preparation have a greater effect than the calendar alone.

High season does not guarantee perfect weather or perfect course conditions. Brief rain remains possible, wind can influence coastal courses and individual venues may schedule maintenance. The advantage is a lower overall level of weather uncertainty rather than a guarantee that every day will be identical.

How Busy Are Thailand’s Golf Courses During High Season?

High season brings stronger demand from international visitors, local golfers, corporate groups, golf societies and hotel guests. The effect is most visible at premium courses, during weekends and in the preferred morning tee-time window.

Busy does not necessarily mean that every course is full. Thailand has a large golf inventory, especially around Pattaya and Bangkok. The real limitation is often finding the exact combination of course, date and starting time that the golfer wants.

A flexible golfer willing to play a different course or accept a later tee time may still find options. A group requiring several adjacent spaces at a specific premium venue has a much narrower range of possibilities.

The strongest booking pressure commonly appears around:

  • Christmas and New Year
  • Popular weekend mornings
  • Major regional holiday periods
  • Golf tournaments and society events
  • Premium courses with relatively limited tee sheets
  • Larger groups requiring consecutive starting times

How Early Should You Book Thailand Golf During High Season?

There is no universal booking deadline for every Thai golf course. Lead time depends on the destination, venue, weekday, preferred tee time and number of golfers.

As a practical rule, golfers should begin planning several weeks ahead during ordinary high-season periods. Christmas, New Year, large groups and priority morning rounds may require earlier action. A golfer with fixed dates and only one acceptable course should plan further ahead than someone with several alternatives.

It is also possible to book too quickly without coordinating the rest of the trip. A confirmed tee time must work with the airport arrival, hotel location and transfer duration. The itinerary should be outlined before the priority rounds are finalized.

High-season booking priority

Plan earliest: large groups, premium morning rounds, Christmas and New Year dates.

Moderate urgency: ordinary weekday rounds with a specific course preference.

More flexible: solo golfers or couples who can accept several courses and starting times.

For confirmations, payments, walk-ins and the complete reservation process, use our separate guide to booking tee times in Thailand.

Does Golf Cost More in Thailand During High Season?

High season is generally the most expensive period for a Thailand golf holiday because stronger demand affects more than the green fee. Hotels, resort rooms, transport and package availability can all influence the final trip price.

Promotional green fees may be less common at popular courses, while preferred hotel categories can sell out or become significantly more expensive. Travelers who compare only the golf price may underestimate how much the accommodation period affects the complete budget.

That does not mean every course or hotel applies the same increase. Pricing depends on the venue, destination, dates, weekday and booking conditions. Golfers should compare the complete trip rather than assuming one national high-season surcharge.

For realistic budgets covering accommodation, golf, caddies, carts, transfers, food and extras, read our Thailand golf holiday cost guide.

Thailand Golf High Season by Destination

Destination Strongest high-season window Main planning consideration
Phuket December–March Strong resort demand and limited flexibility at premium courses
Pattaya November–March or April Deep course choice helps, but premium morning rounds remain popular
Hua Hin November–March Top courses and preferred resorts need coordinated planning
Bangkok November–February Morning traffic, weekend demand and corporate golf
Chiang Mai December–February Cooler northern weather attracts travelers seeking a different Thai golf experience

High-Season Golf in Phuket

Phuket is at its strongest from December to March, when golf can be combined with the island’s main resort and beach season. That combination creates heavy demand for both hotel rooms and preferred tee times.

Golfers should coordinate the hotel and courses carefully because Phuket transfers can become time-consuming during busy travel periods.

High-Season Golf in Pattaya

Pattaya’s large course inventory makes it one of the strongest destinations for a high-round-count trip. The broad selection provides more alternatives than smaller golf markets, although premium venues and morning times still require planning.

It is particularly suitable for groups that want several rounds without changing hotel bases.

High-Season Golf in Hua Hin

Hua Hin offers a calmer seaside environment and strong winter golf conditions. Its leading courses attract considerable demand, so a trip built around specific premium rounds should not rely on last-minute availability.

The destination works well for couples and groups that prefer a relaxed evening atmosphere alongside serious golf.

High-Season Golf in Bangkok

Bangkok’s cooler-season mornings make November to February the most comfortable time for city golf. Course choice is extensive, but traffic must be included in the daily schedule.

Weekends and corporate golf can affect availability, so the weekday pattern may differ from resort destinations.

High-Season Golf in Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai provides Thailand’s most distinctive cool-weather golf experience during December, January and February. Morning temperatures can be noticeably lower than on the coast.

It suits golfers who prioritize scenery, a quieter atmosphere and northern culture over beaches or nightlife.

Who Should Choose Thailand’s Golf High Season?

First-time visitors: High season reduces the weather uncertainty involved in learning how Thai golf, caddies and transfers work.

Serious golf groups: More reliable conditions make it easier to protect a schedule containing several priority rounds.

Golfers with fixed peak-season travel dates: December to February suits travelers who prioritize more comfortable conditions and need to protect several important rounds within a fixed itinerary.

Couples and mixed groups: The main golf season also overlaps with strong resort, beach and sightseeing conditions in many destinations.

Golfers with limited travel flexibility: Someone who cannot move rounds or extend the trip may prefer the lower disruption risk of high season.

High season is less suitable for golfers whose main priority is the lowest possible cost, last-minute booking freedom or quiet tee sheets.

Is Thailand’s Golf High Season Worth It?

High season is worth the premium for golfers who value comfortable conditions, fixed priority rounds and the broadest destination choice. It is especially defensible for a first Thailand golf holiday or a group trip that would be difficult to reorganize after arrival.

The trade-off is straightforward: better overall weather attracts more travelers. Golfers generally pay more, plan earlier and may have fewer options when changing a confirmed itinerary.

Travelers with flexible dates, several acceptable courses and a stronger focus on value may prefer the shoulder or wetter months. They should compare the experience with our guide to playing golf in Thailand during the rainy season.

Frequently Asked Questions About Thailand Golf High Season

When is Thailand’s golf high season?

The broader golf high season generally runs from November to March. December, January and February form the core peak period across most major destinations.

What are the busiest months for golf in Thailand?

December and January are particularly busy because comfortable weather overlaps with Christmas, New Year and strong international travel demand. February also remains a popular golf month.

How early should I book high-season tee times?

Begin planning several weeks ahead for ordinary high-season trips. Large groups, holiday dates, premium courses and fixed morning tee times may require earlier booking. The exact lead time varies by course and destination.

Are Thailand golf courses crowded during high season?

Popular courses and morning times become busier, but Thailand’s overall golf inventory still provides alternatives. Crowding depends on the destination, course, weekday and travel period rather than the season alone.

Is golf more expensive during Thailand’s high season?

Usually, yes. Stronger demand can affect green fees, hotel prices, resort availability and transfers. The complete trip cost matters more than the golf rate by itself.

Is November part of Thailand’s golf high season?

November is the beginning of the broader high season, but conditions vary. Bangkok, Pattaya, Hua Hin and northern destinations may already be attractive, while Phuket can remain transitional earlier in the month.

Is March still high season for Thailand golf?

March remains part of the broader golf season in several destinations, although temperatures rise and the core international peak begins to ease. Phuket, Pattaya and Hua Hin can still be strong choices.

Can I book golf after arriving in Thailand during high season?

It may be possible, but the preferred course and tee time are not guaranteed. Last-minute booking is most risky for groups, premium venues, weekends and holiday periods.

Plan High-Season Golf as One Complete Itinerary

The main high-season mistake is treating the hotel, tee times and transfers as separate bookings. Strong demand means one unavailable element can disrupt the entire schedule.

Choose the destination, shortlist the priority courses, select a practical hotel and then confirm the rounds and transport in a coordinated order. This protects the most important tee times without creating unnecessary travel or timing conflicts.

Fairways of Eden can combine confirmed tee times, accommodation, caddies, golf carts, transfers and optional activities into one customizable high-season golf holiday based on the group’s dates, pace and budget.

You pay for the service before you go on holiday so it doesn’t count as spending money, right?! 😀 every pick up and drop off was on time and very efficient in communication. Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Black mountain, pineapple valley, palm hill and majestic creek in that order 😍

Having been to Thailand before but never playing golf I find myself thinking I was fortunate to find Fairways of Eden talked about on some reviews I saw. Robert the boss is fantastic. Not only did he get me the best rates but also was able to switch a booked day when my back played up. I won’t come to Thailand again to play golf without using FOE.
